West Alvington Primary School has joined the mobile phone recycling campaign Fones4Schools to raise unlimited amounts of cash to go towards helping a school in Africa by sponsoring a child's education and a whole class dinner for a year.
The school decided to join the campaign to raise funds for their partner school in Bedaase, Ghana, Africa.
They will receive £75 for every 50 phones collected, regardless of their age or condition and in addition, every pupil who collects mobile phones gets to choose from a range of fantastic prizes. The more phones that a pupil collects, the better the prize they receive.
Colin Butler, head teacher, said "I am so proud that the children decided to help our partner school in Bedaase, Ghana and recognised that however much they would like the new PE equipment that the children in Africa would appreciate it even more.
"It was the children that decided to run the collection as a competition between the family groups. Good luck to all, you are all winners."

To make the campaign as successful as possible, Fones4Schools provide all the free materials needed to launch and run the campaign and even collect the phones free of charge at the end.
Registered School like West Alvington have access to educational worksheets, the latest news on recycling and competitions and, as the Fones4Schools campaign is ongoing, they can take part as many times as they like.
The Fones4Schools campaign was launched in April 2004 as a fundraising scheme for nurseries, schools, colleges and youth organisations throughout the UK.
The mobile phones are either recycled or reused in developing countries where landline networks are unreliable, patchy or even non-existent.
Suzy Kelsall, operations manager said; "Fones4Schools provides a way of fundraising that is fun, easy but most of all free to participate in.
"We have over 6000 schools, nurseries and youth organisations who have already taken part in the scheme and they have received almost £1 million in cash donations and prizes in just 18 months.
"With an estimated 15 million phones upgraded every year, there are plenty of mobiles gathering dust, which could be turned in to cash and prizes"
Anyone with an old mobile phone that they would like to donate to West Alvington Primary School to raise money can drop them off at the school reception, West Alvington, Kingsbridge, Devon, TQ7 3PP between 8am - 5pm, Monday to Friday during term time.
